Actually, he's not even gifted. I forgot to post the book description, but my review at http://ireadtilldawn.blogspot.com/2014/01/ungifted-by-gordon-korman-2012.html has a plot summary. Basically, Donovan got into the gifted Academy through a mistake (something Sanderson knows, but Heather doesn't).
Delete
