Teaser Tuesdays (Jan 27)

Okay, so for those of you who are new to this meme, here's how it works:

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My current read is A Snicker of Magic by debut author Natalie Lloyd.

Synopsis (click the cover to go to the Goodreads page):
Midnight Gulch used to be a magical place, a town where people could sing up thunderstorms and dance up sunflowers. But that was long ago, before a curse drove the magic away. Twelve-year-old Felicity knows all about things like that; her nomadic mother is cursed with a wandering heart.
But when she arrives in Midnight Gulch, Felicity thinks her luck's about to change. A "word collector," Felicity sees words everywhere---shining above strangers, tucked into church eves, and tangled up her dog's floppy ears---but Midnight Gulch is the first place she's ever seen the word "home." And then there's Jonah, a mysterious, spiky-haired do-gooder who shimmers with words Felicity's never seen before, words that make Felicity's heart beat a little faster.
Felicity wants to stay in Midnight Gulch more than anything, but first, she'll need to figure out how to bring back the magic, breaking the spell that's been cast over the town . . . and her mother's broken heart.
Introducing an extraordinary new voice---a magical debut that will make your skin tingle, your eyes glisten . . .and your heart sing.

Here's this week's teaser, from page 79:

"I see a sky full of words." I scribbled furiously in my blue book:
Becoming
Halcyon
Ravel
Serendipity
Summer

Let me know what you think of the book, and check back this Friday for my review!

  1. It sounds like a charming interesting book. Odd thing is it immediately brought to mind an old episode of Criminal Minds where someone sees words around people too. Don't know where that memory got pulled from. :) Great teaser.

    2. It's not a new book. It's by Daniel Wallace. They made a movie out of it too. The book came out in 1998. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Fish:_A_Novel_of_Mythic_Proportions

    3. Hmm, that looks interesting! I love books that blur the line between truth and lies.

  3. A fun cover. I remember that episode too, Marsha. Guess that means the teaser does the job. :-)
